Hello

Postby Chris_Keys » Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:37 pm

Hi all, I live in Crayford and have just stumbled upon your lovely club (not sure how I have missed it before) and have a few questions.

Firstly I should point I am going to try to be as tactful as I can as I currently go to another club and I don't want to sound like I am poaching your members, neither do I want to offend any of the members of my current club should they happen to read this.

My first question is, forgive my dumbness but I can't seem to find details of your running times. On facebook the events calender said you are running now so I presume you run every Monday evening, is that correct? if so that wouldn't be a problem for me as my current club runs different times.

My other question is do you have people that play/are interested in Malifaux, Warmachine, Infinity or other non-Games Workshop games. It's not that have anything against Games Workshop but as I am more or a painter than a gamer and thus I have small collections for different systems. So basically I am looking for anyone who has patience and would like to teach or learn with me the above or anything else we can mutually agree upon.

If there is anything else you think I would like to now about the club please feel free to add or if you have any questions for me I would be only to happy to answer them.

Kind regards, Chris

im sure one of the proper people who run things would see this soon and respond to it anyway but im online now so might as well, the blurb that's put on the events as and when they are on FB is in the quote at the bottom of this post for you and gives a rough outline, it is pretty much every Monday but there are a few exceptions where there is no club as the hall is in use but again the actual guys who deal with those guys (and money and events and all the other non playing with toys bits) would know when they are. i know some others play dystopian wars and we have recently started playing games of pirates of the Spanish main as a filler game and there is a group that play MTG and we have recently been talking about wanting to try and get a group of us trying some other non GW games with malifux and warmachine both being mentioned along with a few others

The usual blurb:-
Doors open: 7pm
Finish: 11pm
Entry: £3

Feel free to invite people along - first night is free, no charge if you don't get a game and a discount for couples.

Current games:-

Warhammer 40k (5/6ed generally 400pts, 1,500pts, 1,750pts or 2,000pts)
Magic: The Gathering (casual)
Necromunda (3rd Monday of the month)
Warhammer Fantasy (8ed, generally 2,000-2,500pts)
Dystopian Wars (Starter boxes for now)
Dungeons & Dragons (3.5ed - no current campaign)

There's usually people looking for pickup games, but it's best to arrange games in advance if you want to ensure you get an opponent, especially outside of 40k and Magic!

We're always open to new rulesets and games (including board games) so feel free to bring something along or suggest it.

There is a map floating around for directions, and the address is below:-

Freemantle Hall
Bexley High Street
Kent
DA5 1AA

There is *Free* car parking available, situated to the left of the hall as you are looking at it. The gates will be open from 7pm.
40k: guard/marines/chaos/tau
Deadzone: enforcers and rebs
Fantasy: skaven
Dystopian wars: antartica
Malifaux: reserectionist
Dredball: terratons
Dust: SSU

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum!

Ah yes I see we are missing that key bit of information from the Facebook description, that's a bit of a whoopsie thanks for pointing that out!

We meet Mondays as you deduced, club opens at 7 and shuts at 11, although we're looking to extend our closing time. We meet at Feremantle hall in bexley.

The club mainly plays 40k and magic due a historical low head count on any given week, but we are expanding our regular member turnout which will hopefully lead to more games outside 40k being played regularly in the future. That said we do have regular games of necromunda at club which seems more your style.

There's also about 8 people at club who play dystopian wars. At least 4 of us who have malifaux (I just picked up the death marshals box this week), several inquisitor players and at least one warmahordes player. I'm sure if you ask someone for a game of something in advance you'll find someone for almost any game.

Barring that feel free to turn up any night and hang out, if you don't play a game you don't pay subs (and your first game night is free too).
Things I Play
Bolt Action, DUST, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, Necromunda, Mordheim, Malifaux, Dreadball, Cutlass!, Pirates(Of The Spanish Main), Warmachine/Hordes, Dystopian Wars, Magic: TG & board games galore

Thanks Tom and irdeaded for your replies.

I forgot to add, I will probably cycle down, I read somewhere there is a car park, is there somewhere there I can lock my bike up?

I have played a tiny bit of Necromunda and also Mordheim but I do need to get my own gang and will be buying a house Escher starter set to get me going. If I come down with just a gang will I be able to play? If so you should see me within a month, at the very least. I'd rather come down and play as I'm not very good at introducing myself/talking to people I don't know without something to do.

In regards to Malifaux/Warmachine I have everything needed to play a small game for both systems ie 2 small forces and rules. However as I don't know the rules I am looking for someone who has their own force and a bit of patience, as I don't really want to push something on someone who doesn't have a vested interest in the game.

I may be interested in some other games you play, I noticed you have a cutlass section, which I have a few miniatures for and need to expand. Dystopian wars is something I have been looking at recently but don't have anything for yet, do you need a lot of stuff for this.

Generally though I am looking for any skirmish type games you don't need a huge force for to get going.

If it's ok I will put some posts in the relevant sections and I am sure I will see you all in the near future!

Every third Monday of the month is "Necromunda Night" where several people usually turn up and play some 'munda. Although honestly due to the recent start of a new 40k "one list" league few turned up with munda stuff last month. However if you let us know if you'll be down there's plenty of people who'll happily offer you a game or two.

Dystopian Wars, the starter sets are absolutely fine as a starting point, and most of the people who play currently just use the starter set models, and most have both land and sea sets.

You can find an opponent for almost all of the games you've mentioned, but your best bet is to pre-arrange these games, as people tend to only bring specialist games along if they know they've got a game lined up, otherwise they just bring 40k as they know they're likely to get a game in.

As the club's in a bit of a growth spurt at the moment I'm hoping this won't be the case in the near future.

The next "Necromunda Night" is Monday 18th March, and I can guarantee you I'll have my models with me even if no one else does!

Thanks Tom, I will definitely come down on Necromunda night providing my gang arrives in time and I can get it painted. This should give me a nice target to make, I always like this as otherwise I tend to not get anything finished. I will confirm though closer to the date

Yes I had no intention of just turning up with a game or half a game and expecting to find someone to play with. I will put some posts out and see if anyone wants to arrange anything

I will have to look further into Dystopian Wars so it my be a while before I get anything off the ground with that

Well every now and then we run some intro games at our club. So I'm sure we could arrange someone to play a intro game of dystopian wars with you (ie lending you an army to play with) if you'd like to try before you buy

Because that sweet Dystopian candy will bait you in and you will find you have emptied your wallet in no time.

hmmm well as I am a bit of a magpie ( who here isn't I guess) I usually buy stuff before I even know what the game is like just for what it looks like.

Been looking at the Naval battle groups and might get a Empire of the Blazing Sun one, but not until I finish my Necromunda gang. Maybe as a reward :)

I'm sure you wont offend anyone. Out of interest which club do you go to? You can't poach us if you don't tell us.

It would be good to make friends with our neighbouring clubs.
